Student Letter:

Dear Future Host Family,

Hi! My name is Barbara, and I’m excited to share a little about myself so you can get to know me better.

I’ve always wanted to become an exchange student for many reasons. First of all, it would be a dream come true, as well as a unique opportunity to grow and discover new cultures, places, and people. I know this experience will improve my personality, and develope my adaptability and resilience.

Regarding my relationship with my parents, it can sometimes be a bit complicated because we are both very determined and often argue, especially when I want to do too many things at once! Despite that, I always feel supported in everything I do and choose. They have taught me a lot and always give me the support I need.

I’m also lucky to have a close group of friends, even though I only have a few. At first, I am shy, but once I feel comfortable, I become more funny and caring. I enjoy spending time with them because they always make me laugh and make me feel good. I also have a best friend! Her name is Alice, and the friendship I have with her is very close. I’ve known her for ten years, and I met her for the first time in the music school we both attend. We have a lot of fun together, we joke and are very funny, which makes our bond even more special.

When I first told my parents about this experience I wanted to do, they seemed surprised because I’ve never left home for so long, but they supported my choice because they believed it would be a constructive experience that will change my life.

I believe I have a strong character, and I would say my three strongest character strengths are determination, resilience, and empathy.

To conclude, I would like to tell you that during my semester in the United States, I would like to become more independent and improve my English, but also understand what it’s like to live far from home for such a long time. I believe this experience will help me grow by learning how to manage daily challenges and develop stronger independence. Additionally, I want to learn how to feel comfortable with a family that is not my own, adapting to their habits and traditions, and creating a special bond and memories with them.

And that’s all. I’m very grateful for the experience I’m going to live, and I can’t wait to meet you!

Sincerely,
Your future exchange student,
Barbara
